Here I have presented one of easy, quick and healthy dish of toor dal is Dal Tadka. There are so many ways to prepare dal tadka. I chose toor dal to prepare dal tadka. It contains very basic ingredients and no extra efforts of chopping and cooking.Toor dal can easily absorb the flavours of other spices. That’s why I have added turmeric, salt, chilies and ginger at the time of boiling. I just love the fragrance of tadka while preparing this dal tadka.
This dal tadka goes very well with roti, plain paratha, steamed rice, jeera rice, onion rice, tej laung pulao or any variety of rice. Roasted papad and pickle of your choice are enough to complete your meal. Enjoy the preparation of dal tadka with step wise recipe.

Step-by-Step Dal Tadka Recipe :
Step 1 : Rinse the tuvar dal properly.
Step 2 : Soak it using enough water for 20 – 25 minutes. Drain the water and keep it aside.
Step 3 : Meanwhile fine chop ginger, chili and tomatoes. Keep it aside.
Step 4 : Make a paste of garlic in mortar pastel.
Step 5 : In a pressure cooker add drained dal, 3 cup water, ginger, chili, tomato, turmeric powder and salt.
Step 6 : Cook the dal in pressure cooker for 4 – 5whistle or till dal get cooked completely.
Step 7 : Allow it to cool completely. Mix the boiled dal well using wooden spoon. Cook the dal on slow flame.
Step 8 : At the same time heat the oil and ghee in small pan.
Step 9 : Add cumin seeds when oil is medium hot.
Step 10 : When cumin seeds start to crackle, add dry red chilies.
Step 11 : Fry for few seconds. Add garlic paste.
Step 12 : Fry garlic till raw aroma goes away. Add red chili powder and hing. Fry for 5 minutes only.
Step 13 : Meanwhile keep curry leaves on top of dal.
Step 14 : Immediately pour prepared tadka on curry leaves.
Step 15 : Mix well. Turn off the flame. Here your dal tadka is ready to serve.
Step 16 : Garnish prepared dal tadka with chopped coriander leaves. Squize lemon juice if required.
 
Step 17 : Serve warm dal tadka with roti or plain paratha, steamed rice, jeera rice or onion rice, roasted papad or pickle of your choice.
Note:
You can add extra water according to your taste.
- 1 cup split pigeon pea lentils/ toor dal / tuvar dal / arhar dal
- 3 – 3 ½ cup water
- 1 tsp salt or according to taste
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chopped ginger
- 1 – 2 fine chopped green chili
- 1 small tomato ( fine chopped ) ( optional )
- 2 tsp oil
- 2 tsp ghee
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- 2 dry red chili
- Pinch of asafetida ( hing )
- 10 – 12 garlic cloves
- 6 – 8 curry leaves
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- Coriander leaves
- Lemon juice
